How Thick is the Ice?
Matthew Sturm
We will be traveling over many large lakes that are frozen. They have been freezing all winter. How thick will the ice be, and how will we know how thick it is?
From past studies we know it will be about 1.5 to 2.0 meters thick: thats 5 to 6 1/2 feet thick. Below, one of the students in Mrs. Sturm's 2nd grade in Fairbanls shows how thick that really is! Next her is the ice auger we will use to drill through the ice. How long will that take? We will let you know.
